The Hex Commandments

[1]
Create meaning, and from meaning create purpose: that is the work of will.

[2]
God's will brought you forth, your will brings God forth. Know your own will first, thus you become the instrumentality of God's will.

[3]
Love under will, power under love, imagination under power, action under imagination, and all under God.

[4]
Do not profess what you believe is false, nor vow to do what is false to your heart, nor do what you find hateful in your heart.

[5]
Be merciful ahead of being just, be just ahead of being expedient.

[6]
Every sacrifice must be a willing sacrifice.

[7]
Bring out the truth that is within you and grow thereby, for all that you put forth will come back to you thricefold. But if you do not bring forward what is within you, then you will wither, for every strength or talent unfulfilled exacts its own retribution.

[8]
Dull not your ears to joy, nor your eyes to beauty, nor your nose to freshness, nor your tongue to savor, nor your touch to comfort: the work of will is not served thereby.

[9]
As within so without, and as above so below, and every imbalance in the one place has an opposing imbalance in the other, and every harmony in the one place reflects a corresponding harmony in the other.

[10]
Be wary of excess: indulge in it sparingly.

[11]
Respect the will of God in others, neither try to coerce it nor try to weaken it. In like manner, resist the coercion or weakening of your will by any other.

[12]
Betray no confidence that you have freely asked for. Each secret will become manifest on its appointed day.

[13]
Three things all hearts must yearn for: liberty, peace, and community.

[14]
Authority comes from power and from learning: honor it where it is demonstrated, but be ever mistrustful of it where it is only claimed.

[15]
Many paths make a way, so have a care to each path that you set your heart upon. But the way of God cannot be traveled, nor can Her name be spoken: when you give the names of gods and of animals to other beings, when you call yourselves by the name of people, then you have yet barely spoken one letter of Her name. All hearts together can hardly speak it, yet each heart must hear it alone.

[16]
Choose between hope and despair, this is the fundamental choice that precedes all others: but if you have no doubt, then learn to doubt.
